My name is Gona Siva Kumar. I am a father who has been fighting every single day to keep my six-month-old baby alive. From the very moment he was born, his body has been in a battle against illness. When I first held him, I thought jaundice would be something that could be treated with medicines and light therapy. The doctors reassured me that everything would soon be fine. But instead of healing, his tiny stomach began to swell, and within months our lives were plunged into a nightmare.
The doctors later told us that my son had a rare condition called biliary atresia. His liver and ducts were not properly formed, which meant his body could not process and release what it needed to. In May, a surgery called the Kasai procedure was performed in the hope of giving him relief. For a brief moment we prayed that this would be the end of his suffering. But within a week, everything collapsed. He stopped passing stools, his stomach bloated abnormally, and the doctors had to reopen him immediately. They found his intestines tangled inside. Medicines were tried, but his body showed no improvement. His condition only grew worse, and the Kasai surgery failed.
After that, his struggle became unbearable
His fever has been reaching 103 degrees, his little stomach fills painfully with fluid, and doctors now have to remove the collection through repeated procedures just to give him temporary relief. He cries in his sleep, restless and weak. I cannot describe the helplessness of watching him suffer when I cannot ease his pain. The doctors have told me clearly that the only option left is a liver transplant.Without it, my son’s life cannot be saved.
We're more desperate than we've ever been
So far, we have already spent 8 lakhs on his treatment, using every rupee we had from insurance and by taking multiple loans. I work as an AV technician, and my wife stays at home to care for our two children. But the cost of a liver transplant is far beyond anything we can manage. The estimate is more than 20 lakhs, a sum that is impossible for us after all we have already borrowed. Before all this, we lived a small and simple life. I never even bought a vehicle for myself, choosing instead to travel by metro or share rides. We saved money in the hope of giving our children a better start than what we had growing up. Now, all those sacrifices feel like they are slipping away in the face of this illness.
I cannot let my son’s future be taken away from him before it has even begun
With your support, I can give him the chance to survive this ordeal and to live the childhood he deserves. I am begging for your kindness to help us raise the funds for his liver transplant. Every contribution, no matter how small, will bring us one step closer to giving him a chance at life. I dream of seeing him grow, take his first steps, and call me “father” with joy instead of pain. Only with your help can I hold on to that dream and keep hope alive for my baby.
