“My mother died of a heart attack and my father passed away from a stroke. I was their only child, and losing them left a hole in my life that never healed. Today, as I lie here unable to move, the only person standing beside me is my husband Mohit, who himself has 40 percent blindness in one eye. He takes care of me day and night, even though he is struggling too. Sometimes I feel so helpless and alone… but I still pray that someone will help us through this dark time.” — Shipra Srivastava, beneficiary
Shipra misses her parents every dayBecause she is diabetic, the infection spread quickly and aggressively and was referred to Lucknow, where she has now undergone around 14 surgeries to control the damage. Part of her right foot had to be removed to stop the infection from spreading dangerously…but the fight is far from over as she needs more surgeries to repair her damaged leg so she can walk and return to normal life.

‘My husband can barely see, yet he is the one keeping me going through all the pain’
Mohit was working as an accountant when Shipra fell ill. As her condition worsened, he left his job so he could care for her full-time. Despite having 40% blindness in one eye and dealing with diabetes, he now manages every part of her daily life: feeding her, helping her to the washroom, cleaning her wounds, managing hospital visits, and lifting her when she cannot move. With no relatives supporting them and no income left, he carries the entire burden alone while his own health remains compromised.
“I watch him struggle with his eyesight, yet he still guides me gently as if I am the one who cannot see. After our marriage, I dreamt of becoming a mother and building a small happy family with him, but today he spends his days taking care of me like a child. It hurts to see him exhausted, worried, and still trying to be strong for me. He deserves rest and comfort, not this endless suffering. But he refuses to leave my side, and that is what keeps me going.” — Shipra

‘We have spent everything… we have nothing left to continue treatment and relatives ignore me’
Since Shipra fell ill, the couple has exhausted every rupee they had. All their savings are gone and even their jewellery has been sold to cover the mounting hospital bills. Her relatives, who should have been her support, have kept their distance and treat her as if she is an orphan with no one to rely on. Mohit, despite his limited eyesight and his own health issues, took multiple loans for every surgery and dressing.
But now the debts have piled up and their options have run out. Doctors say Shipra still needs three to four more surgeries along with continuous follow-up care, but the family has nothing left to continue treatment.

“I feel like we are standing alone in this world. My relatives have turned away from me, and my husband is breaking under the pressure even though he tries to hide it. We have no savings, no income, and nowhere to go for help. I am begging from my heart, please help me get the treatment I need to survive. Mohit and I cannot fight this battle alone anymore.” — Shipra Srivastava
